APEC TEL Working Group

The APEC Telecommunications and Information Working Group (TEL) aims to improve telecommunications and information infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific region by developing and implementing appropriate telecommunications and information policies, including relevant human resource and development cooperation strategies.

BEUC
BEUC, the European Consumers’ Organisation has a membership of 43 well respected, independent national consumer organizations from 31 European countries (EU, EEA and applicant countries). BEUC acts as a sort of “embassy” for these organizations in Brussels and defends the interests of all Europe’s consumers.

CITEL (Inter-American Telecommunication Commission)
CITEL, an entity of the Organization of American States, is the main forum in the hemisphere in which the governments and the private sector meet to coordinate regional efforts to develop the Global Information Society according to the mandates of the General Assembly of the Organization and the mandates entrusted to it by Heads of State and Government at the Summits of the Americas.

DIRSI, Regional Dialog on Information Society (Latin America & Caribbean)
DIRSI is a network of professionals and academic institutions that seeks to create knowledge to support policy making that promotes effective participation of poor and marginalized communities of Latin America and the Caribbean in the Information Society.

Global Information Society Watch (GISWatch) is published in print and online by the Association for Progressive Communications (APC), the Third World Institute (ITeM), and Dutch development organization Hivos. It collects the perspectives of ICT academics, analysts, activists and civil society organizations from across the globe in over 50 reports.

GISWatch is both a publication and a process: it aims to build networking and advocacy capacity among civil society organizations who work for a just and inclusive information society.

LIRNE, Learning Initiatives on Reforms for Network Economies
LIRNE.NET is a strategic collaboration between research institutes and universities from all over the world. Its mission is to facilitate telecom reform and infrastructure development throughout the world – through research, training, dialogue, policy and regulatory advice – and to build human capital in the area as the foundation for effective regulation and governance for new network economies.

LIRNEasia
LIRNEasia is a regional information and ICT policy and regulation think tank active across the Asia Pacific.

OECD Telecommunications and Internet Policy
The OECD reviews telecommunications and Internet policy, promotes exchange of experience among OECD members and reviews developments in information infrastructure (regulatory reform, convergence of telecommunication, Internet, cable television and broadcasting networks).

Télécoms Sans Frontières
Télécoms Sans Frontières was founded to address the need for communications services in emergency situations. During missions responding to the crisis in the Balkans and in Kurdistan during the 1st Gulf War, TSF’s founders realized that, in addition to medical and food aid, there was a critical need for reliable emergency telecommunications services.
