Delegates from some 35 countries attending the 7th Annual Forum of the Commonwealth Telecom Organisation (CTO) in Nadi, Fiji, have emphasized the need for governments, ICT operating companies, financial institutions, Universal Access and Service Funding agencies and entrepreneurs to collectively invest more in broadband infrastructure in developing countries.

ITU’s Asia-Pacific Regional Preparatory Meeting for the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) concluded in Kuala Lumpur. The main objective of the meeting was to develop regional strategies to foster the development of ICTs as inputs to the forthcoming conference scheduled for 2010.

Usage of mobile data services is growing rapidly in the European Union as mobile broadband networks proliferate and prices fall, says the GSMA, the global trade association representing over 750 mobile operators.

INTUG has submitted a voluntary report to APEC’s Telecommunications and Information Working Group (TEL) for its 36th meeting in Santiago, Chile on the 23rd of October. The report focuses, among other things, on business users communications needs, competition in the field of communications markets, developments in FttH, online secure environments, VoIP access to emergency services and several consumer issues.
