Google Backs Project to Connect 3bn People
12 September, 2008Google has thrown its weight behind ambitious plans to bring Internet access to 3 billion people in Africa and other emerging markets, the Financial Times reports. The Internet search giant has joined forces with cable TV magnate John Malone and HSBC to set up a new company, O3b Networks, named after the “other 3bn” people for whom fast fiber Internet access networks are not likely to be commercially viable.
